Tasting Notes and Characteristics:

The first sip feels like warm incense curling through a cedar-lined temple, where sandalwood, coconut husk, and orange oil rise over honeyed malt and black tea. Yamazaki 18Yr Mizunara 2025 Edition is a Japanese single malt shaped by careful pot-still distillation and long aging with Mizunara oak influence, layering clove, ginger, dried apricot, and cocoa nibs over silky texture and a lingering, gently smoky finish. Alcohol by volume: 43.00%. Country of origin: Japan. The spice-and-incense profile flatters the rich fat of Duck, while bittersweet Dark chocolate echoes the whisky’s toasted coconut and cedar tones, letting the temple-incense complexity hum through every bite.

Producer Information: Suntory

Born in Osaka in 1899 when Shinjiro Torii opened Torii Shoten, Suntory grew from a wine merchant into Japan’s first malt whisky house with the Yamazaki Distillery established in 1923 at the humid, water-rich confluence of the Katsura, Uji, and Kizu rivers near Kyoto, building a philosophy of harmony, precision blending, and monozukuri craftsmanship shaped by local climate, soft water, and Mizunara oak. Its production style emphasizes tsukuriwake, creating diverse malt and grain components across sites like Yamazaki, Hakushu in the forests of Yamanashi, and Chita on Aichi’s coast, then layering them for balance and texture. Beyond whisky, Suntory cultivates Japanese wines at Tomi no Oka in Yamanashi from Koshu and Muscat Bailey A alongside Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot at Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien. The portfolio also spans Midori melon liqueur, The Premium Malt’s beer brewed in Japan, and nonalcoholic staples like Boss Coffee and Iyemon green tea that reflect a steady focus on place, purity of water, and consistent flavor across categories.
